LDL Counter Fraud Team improves its service.

Background

The Benefits Service Counter Fraud Team is an integral part of the Benefit Service which has responsibility for the prevention, detection and deterrence of benefit fraud within the benefits system.

Brief

We are required by law to make sure that the benefit system we administer is as secure as possible. Protecting the system from abuse ensures that benefits remain available for those in need. Ensuring that fraud is detected and punished is a critical measure of the quality of the Benefits Service.

Results

The LDL Counter Fraud Team provides an efficient investigation service whose performance over the last two years has improved by over 90%.

  • The Counter Fraud Team provide an online e-referral form that allows the public and others to report allegations of benefit fraud quickly and easily.
  • LDL provides a dedicated fraud freephone line that enables anybody to call with any information regarding benefit fraud.
  • The Counter Fraud Team conduct intelligence lead investigations on people we suspect of committing benefit fraud.
  • Once the investigation is completed the appropriate sanction action is taken including prosecution. The prosecution is conducted by the in-house solicitor and legal assistant.
