Liverpool Direct Limited short listed for European E-Government Award

Date: 18/08/2009

Liverpool Direct Limited and Liverpool City Council have been shortlisted for a major European e-Government Award.  Liverpool Direct Limited and Liverpool City Council submitted a joint proposal in consideration for the Citizen Empowerment Award.   The award identifies the most outstanding practices in improved and easier access to public services for citizens.

Liverpool City Council is dedicated to empowering the citizens of Liverpool, local residents and local communities.  Working together Liverpool Direct Limited and Liverpool City Council has made significant improvements to the local framework against national targets, by providing more accessible services to the Liverpool public as a whole.

Liverpool City Council has empowered citizens and customers with the ability to make choices when contacting the authority, courtesy of a successful Public Access Modernisation Programme hosted by Liverpool Direct Limited.

Multiple contact channels are now open to all citizens such as the contact centre which is the largest Local Authority and general public contact centre in the UK, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Citizens can speak face to face with dedicated Customer Service Advisors at any of our eleven One Stop Shops.  There are also options to contact Liverpool Direct Limited via Email, SMS, Web Chat and through the On-street Kiosks (Pavement Pods). Customers can also make payments through a dedicated payment line, or even via the Internet.

Over 250 submissions were received for this year’s European e-Government Awards. Each submission was evaluated by three independent experts. As a result, Liverpool City Council has been selected as a Finalist. As such, both Liverpool Direct Limited and Liverpool City Council have been invited to exhibit their project at the fifth Ministerial e-Government Conference 2009 in Malmö, Sweden.

Cllr Warren Bradley, Leader of Liverpool City Council and a Board Director of Liverpool Direct Limited stated:  “Long gone are the days when people got passed from pillar to post and were unable to get in touch with the city council. Thanks to our partnership with BT through Liverpool Direct Limited, access to the council has never been easier, whether it’s in person, by phone or online. The Public Access Modernisation Programme has put Liverpool at the forefront of e-Government and being short listed for this prestigious award further acknowledges this.”
