Up, up and away LDL says a fond farewell to its chosen Charities
Date: 02/07/2010
Throughout the year staff across all service areas at Liverpool Direct Limited have got involved with various fundraising events and activities such as dress down days, fancy dress competitions, sponsored silences, cake and book sales, raffles, quizzes and organised runs. As a result of the hard work and commitment to our charities, over £13,000 was raised!
On the back of a highly successful year of fundraising, Liverpool Direct Limited organised a balloon release to say goodbye to their current chosen charities, Alzheimer's Society Liverpool and Zoe's Place Baby Hospice.
Charity Champions across all service areas joined together to say a final farewell to Liverpool Direct Limited’s 2009/2010 charities.
Over 500 balloons were released from the grounds of St John’s Gardens in perfect weather conditions. Once released into the sky a sea of green, blue and yellow balloons flew right over the top of St George’s Hall. The colours were chosen to represent the colours of the charities.
Representatives from Alzheimer’s Society Liverpool and Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice were also in attendance to watch the release and were delighted with the support they had received from staff at Liverpool Direct Limited over the last year.
Michelle Davies, Alzheimer's Society said: "The money raised by staff across LDL will go a long way in supporting the Alzheimer's Society local services in Liverpool. We currently offer a variety of services from support groups for both people living with dementia and their carers, a helpline, information and support liaising with all the different health professionals, home visits, social events, day trips and much more. We rely on donations to continue providing our services and so the hard work everyone has put in to raise this money is very much appreciated by the Society and all those who use our services, thank you."
Carol Kirkham, Zoe's Place Baby Hospice said: "I am overwhelmed by the generosity and commitment all staff at LDL have shown Zoe's Place. Our hospice is a very happy place and we want to make improvements. Your money will help go towards the entire refurbishment of our ground floor which will be converted to create more space and better facilities for the children in our care. Thank you so much, we really appreciate your efforts."
To mark the occasion the balloon release was followed by a presentation were both Michelle Davies and Carol Kirkham from the chosen charities were presented with a cheque for £6,825 each.
Commenting on the charity activity, David McElhinney, said: “Over the past 12 months, our staff have pulled out all the stops to raise as much funds as possible for our two chosen charities. It has been a remarkable team effort which has certainly paid off as we beat our fundraising target of £12,000. Without the enthusiasm and commitment of our staff, such an amount could not have been raised.”
